Lurie Children's Week
June 1 - June 9, 2026
Lurie Children’s Week is a citywide celebration of the kids, families, caregivers, supporters and community partners who make hope and healing possible every day at Lurie Children’s.
Throughout the week, our community will come together in big and small ways to make a difference for children and families. From fundraising events and family activities to restaurant givebacks, shopping partnerships and special moments across the hospital and community, Lurie Children’s Week is an opportunity for everyone to get involved.
Because when a community comes together for kids, there’s no limit to the impact we can make.
Lurie Children's Week History
The Mayor and the City Council of the City of Chicago issued a proclamation on May 23, 2022, declaring June 9 Lurie Children’s Day, in celebration of the hospital’s 140-year anniversary of transforming children’s health in Chicago and beyond.
“When Julia Foster Porter originally opened the hospital as an eight-bed cottage in Lincoln Park, it was the first children’s hospital in Illinois,” said Thomas Shanley, MD, President & CEO of Lurie Children’s. “Her vision was to care for sick children irrespective of race, creed and ability to pay. This is the foundation of our current mission, which has evolved beyond exceptional patient care to include groundbreaking research, inspiring education, and relentless advocacy. This mission continues to motivate us each day to achieve excellence in all these domains, so that every child has an opportunity for a healthier future.”
What started as a celebration of our anniversary and our origins in Chicago has evolved to a week-long celebration, honoring our past, present and future.

The Walk for Lurie Children’s: The Walk is the signature event during Lurie Children's Week and the opportunity for our entire community to celebrate together. On Sunday, June 7, families, caregivers, supporters, and teams from across the community will participate in the fun-filled walk celebrating the kids who inspire us every day.
Corporate Partner Promotions: Businesses throughout Chicagoland support Lurie Children’s through special promotions, giveback campaigns and community activations that help raise awareness and critical funds for kids and families.
Lurie Children's Taste Buds: Restaurants across the city participate in Lurie Children's Taste Buds, giving supporters delicious ways to dine out and give back leading up to and during Lurie Children’s Week.
iHeart a Lurie Children's Caregiver: Patients, families and supporters can share notes of gratitude and encouragement with the incredible caregivers who provide compassionate care to children every day.
Fundraising Campaign: We have a goal of raising $500,000 during Lurie Children's Week. Supporters can make a gift to help ensure Lurie Children’s can continue providing lifesaving care, groundbreaking research and essential support services. Together, there's no limit to what we can do!
Moments of Celebration: From surprise experiences inside the hospital to Chicago landmarks and skylines lit up blue, joyful moments throughout the week help celebrate the strength and resilience of the kids and families we serve.
Most importantly, Lurie Children’s Week is about showing children and families that they are surrounded by a community that cares.
