Maria Rozo, MD

Dr. Rozo earned her medical degree from University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. After completing her residency at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in 2022, she worked as a hospitalist in the oncology and blood and marrow transplant divisions. Dr. Rozo is passionate about assisting underserved communities. She has led two interdisciplinary teams of student volunteers to provide free health care to children and families experiencing homelessness in Philadelphia and Madison, WI, participated in a two-week trip to Guatemala while at UW to provide free health care services, and has helped organize free tax preparation services for low-income communities in Philadelphia.

“Hematology-oncology sparks my intellectual curiosity; however, it is in taking care of the whole patient and advocating for their unique needs that makes me feel most fulfilled. My calling that drew me to medicine, an inherent drive to make a difference in the lives of others, developed from challenges my family has experienced. My parents raised me as teenagers. Since I was a teenager, I have assumed the role of caregiver to my parents when they have experienced challenges with their mental health, navigating a complex medical system to get them the care they need,” shared Dr. Rozo.

Working in the cancer survivorship clinic, Dr. Rozo developed a vision to incorporate her passions for advocacy, health equity and addressing health disparities into oncology. Among her fellowship goals is a desire to pursue clinical research to design effective patient education and transition plans in cancer survivorship care. She hopes to become a leader in achieving equitable care in hematology-oncology.
